SD Card for Readyboost.

I know another readyboost thread but this is kinda different because the rest were flash drives.

Now I have a laptop that has 1GB ram, and a SD slot (I dont feel like using USB because it sticks out) I used the sandisk Sd 1gb regular blue SD chip and it works fine with readyboost but my cursor "freeze" for 100 millisecs or so every 10 seconds. Now the question is is it due to the slow speed of the standard sandisk? Is the SD card as good as USB flash drives? Should I go with an ultra II sandisk SD card?

The card is 60x...fast enough for it to be used for readyboost so i really dont know whats the problem is.

Depends on the card or the drive. And just cause it says 60x doesnt necessarily mean its fast enough...just probably.

Your cursor freezing shouldnt happen with any type of readyboost. Whether its the card or the reader...you'll just have to try another one and and see.

This actually happens on my computer too, and I have a pretty fast flash drive (Apacer HT203, ~8-9MB/sec on both random performance tests). However I only see it when I've just (re-)connected the drive and it's in the process of being filled; after a few minutes the cursor freezing stops. It's mildly annoying, but only happens when I have to disconnect and then reconnect the flash drive (to grab files from another computer, for example).

How long does it last? I never leave it on longer than an hour or so because i get annoyed.

This just plain and simply shouldnt be happening...there must be a problem with USB or I/O on both of your systems...what are your configs? You might have something in common.

Does just the cursor freeze, or does the entire system lock? (All animations stop, etc). Is the HD light on when this happens?

If it's just the cursor, its probably some sort of USB problem which saturates the bus writing to the card and leaves no bandwidth for your mouse. If its total cpu/system lock, thats either a driver problem, bad H/W, or a really screwed config.

It appears to be everything; not only does the cursor freeze, but so do any in-progress animations (Aero, WMP visualizations, whatever).

Edit: And it only lasts for a few minutes after connecting the drive; like I said, mildly annoying but not enough to make me want to spend a weekend troubleshooting the issue.
