Scythe S-flex 800RPM vs 1200RPM

Lets just say I need to get a new fan for my Xig S1283... I have a Core2DUO E8400 stock clock, do not expect to overclock.

I would like to keep it quiet, and was looking at either getting the Scythe S-FLEX 800RPM or 1200RPM version. Would 800RPM version have enough air low? or should I go with the 1200RPM?

I can tell you from my personal experience, the S1283 sucks big time with a low rpm fan. But this applies only when you oc your cpu to the max, if there isn't any overclocking involved then both of those fans will cool the cpu enough. Of course, the 1200 rpm fan will give you lower temperatures, but even the 800 rpm one, will not overheat your cpu.

I'd get the 1200rpm version and let the motherboard control its speed. The 1200 has a much better voltage range then the 800 version, and even at full speed, it's still very quiet.

I already have an Antec Tri-Cool 😎😎😎 just waiting to replace the fan on a S1283 once I order that heat sink..

Make sure your motherboard supports non-PWM CPU fan control.

My old ASUS A8N-SLI Premium worked fine with 3-pin CPU fans, but my new ASUS P5E-VM HDMI requires a 4-pin PWM fan to control the fan speed.

I bought an S-Flex (fastest one they make) thinking that ASUS' Q-fan would control it, but since it's only 3-pin, it runs full speed all the time. The fortunate part is that the fan is quiet enough even at full speed that it's not a big deal.
