I bought the Scythe Ninja because everyone says it's the best. Well, It is, but because of the design it allows no airflow through the heatsink of the heatpipe from the northbridge of my A8N-SLI Premium. This is worrying me, so I've decided to just get a new heatsink.

I'm wondering what you all suggest. I've purchased this fan for my Ninja, and would like reuse it if possible. The last thing I need is another fan lying around. I would really prefer heatsink that can utilize the high airflow.

don't know much about airflow through the ninja (although i think there might be enough air flow if you position it good) but the Zalman9500 is a pretty good heatsink that would increase the air flow in the case by pretty much.

It's not about general airflow. It's about airflow over the one small heatsink on the northbridge heatpipe. The Ninja is so tall, the airflow from the fan just goes over it, instead of through it.

Buy a thermalright SI-120 and place your fan to blow down on your mobo and it will cool your chipset heatpipe and your ram.

are you noticing any temp increase and instability? From what i heard, the heatpipe requires a HSF like the stock cooler...I'm also pretty sure the Zalman9500 could cool it, since the fan should blow directly at it.

BINGO ! Right idea if the Ninja is retained.

Personally, I don't care for the size of the Ninja but many like them and with good reason.
They cool very well with no real noise.

The Ninja does NOT requior over 40cfm to work it's majic, so a 110cfm fan is a waste.
That is a case fan and I would use it as such.

The spacing of the fins on the Ninja is rather wide, this was done for passive operation.
If air is needed off the Ninja, an aluminum plate curved and bonded to the fins would
serve the purpose that the lower rear fins on the 64Pro provide.
Bond it in place with a few dabs of silicone adhesive or a hot glue gun.
ACE Hardware sells small sheets of aluminum, thin enough to be cut with scissors.

Most all the current high end HSs do not need over 50cfm. The only one that benifits from
70cfm might be the XP-90Copper. The SI-120/XP-120 tend to top out at 50cfm, after that
the law of deminishing returns kicks in as more cfm is applied.
