so, i just took advantage of the current newegg combo deal for the ASUS M4A78T-E socket-AM3 motherboard and the phenom II X3 720 BE for $180 AR. i'm upgrading from a socket-775 ASUS P5B-E and C2D 6400. i have a scythe ninja plus rev. B sitting on the C2D right now.

the scythe ninja was not particularly cheap when i got it, and has been a pretty decent cooler over the past two and a half years. i'm sorta loathe to get rid of it if i don't have to. documentation for this heatsink indicates that it's compatible with socket AM2, with the installation of an included bracket. socket AM3 is physically identical (i think) to socket AM2. as long as the heatsink physically fits on the new motherboard, which i think it will, there shouldn't be any problems using the ninja on an AM3 socket... should there?

if there are other reasons why it might not be a good idea to use this slightly older cooler with the phenom II x3 720 BE, let me know. it seems the phenom II uses more power than the C2D (95w vs. 65w, i think), but i don't know how big a deal that is. i do intend to overclock the phenom II to the extent that i can, and i'll also probably try and unlock the 4th core on the chip.

thanks!
