Scythe ninja rev 2 vs Freezer 64 Pro

well im finally retiring the good old athlon xp it has survived a 1ghz overclock, it has been overclock since the day i got it over 3 years ago, its always been atleast 300mhz above stock...


anyway im buying a opteron 146. my goal is 2.6ghz but knowing me im probably going to push it sooner or later. i will be using a asrock 939dual-vsta.

right now im up in the air between the scythe ninja rev 2 and freezer 64 pro. they both look purity good to me and i just cant make up my mind. i was hoping maybe some one would have experience with both or at least one that could help me decide.

The freezer 64 is great for light overclocking and its stellar price. Ninja however, will beat it hands down.

Pfft.....Opteron 146? With Opteron 165s so cheap, why bother with a single core?

but to answer your question, the Scythe Ninja is an entirely another league compared to the F64P in size as well as performance (given that you sand that Ninja down....last time I saw a Ninja base, the bottom was so evident of machining marks, that using 300 grit sandpaper got it flatter and made it perform better)

I use the Arctic Freezer 64 Pro and I am really happy with it. It keeps me at 34C at idle and 42C under load and that is with a 4400+ OC'd to 2.64GHz which is an 8% OC.

I use the Ninja Rev 2 on my E6400 @ 3.2 ghz (400x8) and haven't hit any load temps above 60C in CoreTemp or AsusProbe

RallyMaster talked me into getting the 165, im ordering it tomorrow and ill order the hsf next month, i still cant decide if the ninja rev 2 is worth the extra $10... i do like how the ninja looks though, it would take up 1/4 of my window, its so big yet it still weighs about the same as my volcano 12. the freezer is smaller and still looks very good but im still not 100% clear on its performance. they both look so good lol

I've got a ninja myself on a 4400+, and have installed a F64P on another 4400+ in a PC I made for someone. The F64P was a lot noisier than I expected, I had to run the fan down at about 1000-1200 rpm to get it quiet enough, and the cooling at that level is just nowhere near as good as the ninja with the 12cm fan at about 800

IMO, the Ninja is worth the extra $ without a doubt. The stock fan that comes with it needs to be run at a low rpm aswell though, as that's by no means 'silent' at 12v.

The Ninja hands down. It has become my new favorite hsf for the builds I do, not only for it's cooling performance, but also it's low db level and price.

I run my F64P at 2100 RPM and I'm perfectly fine with it. It's the user's decision of whether the fan is loud or not.

I have the 64 Pro as well and it is dead silent. And when you can get it for $15 plus $5-$6 for shipping, I can't see the Ninja being a very good deal for $40.

Just make sure that your motherboard doesn't have anything that interferes with the installation/seating of the Ninja.
