A friend asked me to help him fix problems associated with his hew Scythe Ninja heatsink. Basically, whenever the new heatsink is installed, his computer will turn on (indicated by various fans and lights) but the monitor will not display anything. When the Ninja is taken off and the original Intel HSF put back on the mobo, everything works perfectly. Anyone know what could be the problem? One note, my friend did not take the wax paper backing off the backplate completely, so the backing plate for the Ninja was screwed on with 2 layers of wax paper in between it and the mobo on our attempts.

Edit: we tried many things, from resetting CMOS various times to running his motherboard out of his computer. We plugged in all the fans, etc, and it does not seem to help the problem. The Ninja was also installed with varying clamping pressures, and this did not help either.

lemme get this straight, you have to put something between the backplate and the mobo, or else? Man, thats dumb. At least I know now, instead of wondering why my new system isnt posting....

oh damn, lol! I figured the heatsink came with a plastic sheet-piece like my Thermalright 947U did.

Well, the entire backplate is covered by a rubbery adhesive pad, so how could that short out the mobo?

Also the problem was resolved when my friend swapped out his temporaray ECS Hybrid mobo (his Gigabyte is in RMA) for another friend's ASUS P5LD2.

I recently installed the Ninja on a MSI NF4 board and remember the rubber being pretty thick. I didn't run into any problems of it shorting out.

Had the same problem with my Thermaltake Beetle. Oddly enough, loosing up the screws a bit on the heatsink caused the PC to boot normally. Weird cos the PC ran a year with the heatsink with zero problems. I ended up RMA'ing the MB and didn't figure it out until I got it back. When I saw loosen, the heatsink is still snug, I just had to let out a little. The card behind the backplate is an interesting idea though
