Scythe Ninja Installation

Hey there,

I'm currently building my new PC, and as I was about to attach my Ninja to my CPU, I saw the tube of thermal compound out of the corner of my eye. Sure enough, my E6600 stock HSF comes with a pre-applied substance, however the Ninja does not.

Unfortunately the instruction manual is pretty vague when it comes to application of the stuff, and the internet really only gives nice, clear instructions for AS and Zalman compounds. So, I am just wondering a couple things:

1) Regarding the actual application of the substance, I assume I just squeeze it out onto my finger and apply it to the CPU surface? How thick should I layer it on? Are there any household items I can use to aid me in spreading it evenly rather than just using my finger?

2) Am I supposed to put it on both the CPU and the base of the HSF?

Sorry if this is pretty trivial... I Google'd and I searched these forums, but didn't find anything specific.

Now, as for the 120mm fan that it came with, I searched opinions on that as well and basically it's a toss up based on what kind of rig you're running. I have a P180, and that has two fans literally right beside the Ninja, so right now I think I'm just going to leave it off, primarily because I don't know what side of the HSF to put it on. If there's anything I should know, do tell... I'd rather have my PC running cooler than warmer because I didn't know what side to put it on!

Thanks!

Don't use your finger to apply it, as the oils in your skin isn't something you want to get in the mix. Just dab a little right on your CPU, use the same amount AS recommends. let the ninja itself spread the stuff around, you'll be fine. HOWEVER, remove the pre-existing stuff off the processor beforehand using 71%+ rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth. Basically, clean it up, put a dab of the compound on the CPU, put the Ninja on, twist is VERY slightly (nudge it 2 degrees or so left and right while keeping the bottom flat) clamp it down, and let it run.

As for the fan, point the fan towards your exhaust fan so the air gets pushed through the ninja and out the case.
