That all depends on how many files you have the drives transfering at one time.... up until you reach your max throughput bandwidth....
 
SCSI (16 bit - wide) supports 16 physical addresses. With a single controller you can theoretically control 15 HDD's. You couldnt cable that many realistically though (unless you use a disk enclosure with a backplane). How many you can support before you run out of bandwidth depends totally on your application.
