Found this today

"Daisy is a 10 month old dog who was a'ramblin around her neighborhood and happened to wander into a neighbor's yard. Said neighbor didn't much appreciate Daisy's presence, so after a few unsuccessful attempt to shoo her off his property, he got another bright idea. And so, he doused Daisy with gasoline and set her on fire.

You know, because *that* seems a totally @#%$ rational thing to do.

Fort Worth Police responded to the scene, and called the Humane Society of North Texas, who took ownership of the dog. She was then transferred to a 24-hour veterinary hospital, where she remains, in very guarded health.

Dead and dying tissue has to be massaged and scrubbed from her body during sessions in a swirling hot tub. She's in such bad shape that even the lifesaving medicines she needs so desperately can cause her harm in the long run -- the antibiotics she is being treated with to fend off a lethal infection are so powerful she has to be constantly monitored for damage to
her kidneys (renal failure). The fire burned all the tissue around her ears and eyes, and the vets are still unsure as to whether or not she will ever regain her sight completely.

All because some @#%$ decided to set her on fire because he didn't want her in his yard. Like we don't have enough @#%$ up things in this world to deal with already.

As a testament to this dog's unbreakable spirit and willingness to please, less than two weeks after this encounter with unspeakable cruelty, Daisy is up and walking (on burned paws) under her own power, managing to eat and drink for herself, and even managed a tail wag from time to time.

HSNT and Daisy now need your help!!!!!! She is in serious condition at the emergency animal hospital and her future is still uncertain. The bill for her care is going to be very expensive and care time consuming. Additionally, just operating our cruelty investigation department costs hundreds of dollars daily. Without your support HSNT could not be here to help Daisy or any of the hundreds of animals we are currently housing. Please help us to help Daisy and to make sure we are here for every animal that needs our help.

A DONATION of any amount will enable the Humane Society of North Texas to continue to be there for every animal in need, whether it is one with no shelter, one with an owner that just needs educating, or one like DAISY. Please be as generous as possible to help us make certain no other animal suffers the way that Daisy has. You may click on PAY Pal above or mail a check to ATTENTION: DAISY c/o HSNT at 1840 E. Lancaster, Ft. Worth, Texas 76103"

That is so messed up, almost like the guy who tossed the dog out of the building.....it pisses me off when people are cruel to animals.....his punishment should be the same as the offense......

If the dog was in that much pain I would have put her to sleep. :(

Then I would have put the jerk-off who lit her on fire to sleep. :|

Do you think animal shelters in other cities will let you adopt an animal if you aren't a resident? I know the local one calls your landlord to make sure you're allowed to have a pet. Do you think they would be willing to make the call long distance? I saw Little Man on page 3 of the dogs they have available...

it would depend on how far away you are. Here (chicago) as long as you can provide a good home and check out fine (kids arent too young, previous animals taken away, etc) you can adopt it.

I'm only about 2 hours away from there. That might be a crazy drive with a new dog, but it would be worth it. Mine needs a buddy. ;)

It sucks that that guy did that, and it sucks for that dog, but what the hell makes that dog so special? The SPCA here in Sacramento kills about 60,000 dogs and cats every year, jsut cause there are too many of them. What's so special about this dog that's already dying that it deserves $1000s worth of medical attention, when other's are killed off in shelters as soon as they get sick?

I seriously hope you aren't comparing animals being put down to an animal being burned alive...

The SPCA has to put down animals not because they get their kicks doing it, but because people don't spay/neuter their animals...

I'm not saying that they're equally justifiable, I'm saying that this dog is no more worthy of $1000s in medical treatment than any other dog. Why is so much time and effort being spent on this dog that may very likely die, and will never be normal again, and so little money spent on sick puppies in shelters. Why does this dog deserve it any more than they do? Because it was on the news? By all the standards I've ever seen, they should have put this dog down, but they didn't cause it has a news story attached to it.

I just think it's unfair that becuase this dog got in front of a camera it deserves all this extra medical attention that could be better used on animals that are much more likely to survive.

Well, I'm not going to argue this, because I would've just put the dog down.

I'd want to die if I got burnt badly...

They are probably hoping to bring in more money than it will cost help this one dog so they can have some extra cash to blow on other things. It will probably work too.

I tend to agree. However, I think the incredible cruelty this guy inflicted upon this poor dog tends to provoke the reaction of wanting to save it. That guy deserves to fry in his own grease.

this happens all the time, get used to it. wars... they publicize certain wartime heroes, despite the fact that there are undoubtedly many other brave men who gave their lives. it's more or less a way to get people to care and notice. people don't care about statistics as much as they care about one dog who's pictures and story are in the news. that's just how it works.

:( That poor pup. Sounds like she's in good hands though.

I highly reccomend adopting a dog/cat. About 4 years ago my parents adopted a dog that nobody wanted b/c he had allergies. This dog was the best! He seemed to bond to everyone and was so loyal. He was my best bud untill he passed away in April due to liver complications :(
