scuba and underwater video

does anyone here scuba?
i'm getting my open water certification soon and the only place i know that sells housings is ikelite. i have a JVC GR-DVL120u. the housing is like $700 :(

does anyone know of any alternatives for a cheapy college student?

Well, to tell you the truth, my only experience with Ikelite housings was an unpleasant one. The thing leaked badly at 70 feet down thereby ruining a camera.

i've heard you have to do some video editing after to enhance the coloring. color doesn't film well underwater ...

Color films very well underwater. The problem is that some isn't there as some of the visible spectrum (starting with the red end) gets filtered out the deeper you go. Not a problem if you take some lighting with you.

shooting video underwater isn't for poor college kids, I think. It is a great idea but scuba diving is an expensive hobby even if you aren't shooting. I'd get a camera made for it and not put a camera in a watertight case. It'll probably leak.
