SCSI woes

Got a plexwriter 8/20 installed right now, termination, parity jumpers are in. Its set at scsi id 4. Trying to add a HP 40x scsi(its a rebadged plextor) cdrom. Just to see if I could get it working, I removed the burner and put in the cdrom. NOw I have multiple problems. Firstly, I can't get the flash program to flash the plextor bios so I can use discdupe, etc.. Secondly, I can't seem to rip audio w/ it either. Also, I need help w/ jumper settings, etc, to get them both to work concurrently.

Which SCSI ID is your HP 40x sitting on? Both the drives should have auto termination, so I'm pretty certain that you don't have any termination problems. Try using different SCSI IDs on the drives.

BTW, which SCSI card are you using in your system?

I'm using a cheap adaptec aic7850 chipset.

By the way why can I flash the cdrom bios to make it a full plextor? THe firmware program doesn't recognize it as a plextor drive when I try to upgrade to it.

The id for the cdrom is 4 (default) and the burner is 2.

Is your adapter terminated? If it use the resitor packs pull them out and reinstall them? Are you using dos drivers and then loading windows drives? Does both your drives and host support Parity? if not you need to disable it on all. Make sure both drives arn't trying to terminate the SCSI chain.

I have no Idea about the firmware upgrade.

if you bought the plexwriter in a kit it came with a adaptec 2930CU SCSI card

Is your burner external or internal?

I bought one of those rebadged plextors also to go with my external Imation 8x20(its a rebadged plextor also) and had to put a jumper on the cd-rom for proper termination and I also set the ID to 1 so i could boot off of the drive

also make sure that the last device on the SCSI cable is terminated and all other devices have termination disabled
