SCSI with IDE hard drives question?

Is it possible that my scsi cheetah HD running off a adaptec card performance "would drop off with a single IDE ata66 HD running off the MoBo also" because it seem a little slower with the ide plugged up??

I can only see 2 possible reasons for this (there may be more):

1. DMA is not enabled on your IDE (so CPU cycles are hogged by accessing the IDE drive)

2. Your 32bit/33mhz PCI bandwidth 125 mb/sec throughput (approx, with overhead) has been reached. This is not likely as it takes a 4 disk RAID0 of Cheetah X15's to do.
