SCSI vs IDE

I am building a new server for the school I work for, and one of the fewls I work with suggested that we use SCSI. If we use SCSI we are adding about an extra 450 - 500 bucks! I dont think we need to use SCSI because of the new speeds of IDE drives is more than adaquate...am I wrong ? What do you think would be the best specs for a server? AMD vs INTEL ....and .... SCSI vs IDE? can somebody help me?😀

Iwil DP400
1gb rambus (4x256)
2 Xeon 2ghz .13u 512K - 470 each

Xeons are still the best if you want a server.

AMD will be cheaper, but tried and true Intel is the way to go especially for dedicated server

it would be helpful if you gave some details about the expected usage of the servers, such as how many people will access it at the same time, how much information will be served to the aberage user, etc... today's scsi drives offer much lower seek times which helps if a lot of data is randomly requested (the atlas 10KIII would probably be the best bang for the buck). if there will be a light hit rate, then a fast ide drive (such as the western digitals with 8meg cache) will probably work fine.
