no downside to using the adapters. I have used them many times before. As for prices on them, I don't know... Its been a LONG time since Ive bought SCSI stuff (not since 5 years ago when I picked up my Ultrastar 9ZX, which is still running BTW)

Two of my U160 drives are adapted and run fine. I bought mine from Yozinha (or close to that) on eBay - I know they work fine with U80 and 160 drives but I've not tested them with U320s. Since only the latest generation of 15k drives can break 100MB/sec anyway, those should be fine for anything. I bought mine for under $10, and last I knew they were going for under $5. each plus shipping. You can pay up to $20. or more for them at some of the good SCSI sites if you want. Hypermicro has good ones for $9. each.

Here are some good SCSI vendors:

http://www.hypermicro.com (may offer free ground shipping if you mention www.storagereview.com - check the SR site for the latest offer)
http://www.centrix-intl.com
http://www.pc-pitstop.com (offers PayPal as a payment option)
http://www.scsi4me.com (ditto)
http://www.etech4sale.com
and I can usually find stuff (like drives, cables and adapters) for low bucks on eBay.
