SCSI to IDE Conversion

See this server?

http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...00X2-B&cat=SYS

It contains two SCSI drives for storage - this is what I want, but what's involved in swapping out SCSI drives for IDE drives?

SATA drives are cheaper and higher capacity, plain and simple.

Could I cable two IDE drives to an IDE Host Controller? I imagine the OS is installed on an onboard IDE drive, cabled to an IDE controller card...?

Can anyone comment on this?

Thank you.

You're not going to physically convert the IDE protocol to SCSI. It's likely that you won't be able to route any new cables either because it uses a backplane.

What's wrong with the drives that come with it? Used Ultra320 drives are pretty cheap if you want more capacity.

That pretty much answers my question - thanks.

I'm looking for an inexpensive server, with easily accessed drives. I like these rack mount form factor units - they don't take up a lot of space.

The drives that come with it aren't particularly large, by today's standards. I was trying to figure out what to do when these drives are filled, and I'm not interested in buying more external back-up drives. I want one central storage machine that can be accessed by several different machines on my network.

I'm also toying with the idea of a home web server, too.

Thanks again.
