SCSI Terminator Passive/Active

I currently have an Alps MD-2300 which I cannot get working. I have a mac, windows 98se pc, and a windows 2000 server pc. The Alps printer will not work. I installed a PASSIVE TERMINATOR on my SCSI Alps printer. On my mac, the computer hangs at startup. On the other computers, I get 2 devices (Generic Printer in windows 2000) in the device manager. Still it does not work. I was thinking that I need an Active terminator for my printer. Does anyone know if it is MANDITORY to use an active terminator on that printer or any devices that suggest active terminators?

It is not mandatory, but definitely recommended to use active termination. Just remember, with SCSI, you need both ends of the chain terminated (ie. the card and the printer) and each device needs it's own unique SCSI ID (once again, the card and the printer).

Well... I got an active terminator and when I turn on the computer, it locks at the Welcome to Mac OS. Could this be because I do not have a high impedance scsi cable?
