According to Adaptec 15,000 RPM disk drive will sustain data rates up to 75 megabytes/sec. So then what is the speed of Seagate Cheetah 36.7GB 15KRPM Ultra 320 SCSI. Seagate spec says External transfer rate is 320 Mbytes/sec. So then Adaptec's claim isn't true?

If it's 320Mbytes/sec, then I suppose you'd need Ultra 320 SCSI controller and 320 cable?

Is that right?
 
320 Mbytes/sec is maximum bustransfer speed. The 75 Mbytes/sec is the maximum speed you can get data from the harddrive.

The 320 Mbytes is usefull if you have lots of SCSI devices attached since they share the 320 Mbytes/sec.
 
So, if you only want to use one SCSI as Boot drive then you don't need U320 controller right?
I could just get U120 controller and that'll be plenty?
