SCSI RAID

ther eis SCSI RAID controllers right? i wonder how nice 2 36gb Seagate Ultra160 SCSI's in RAID would perform..

EDIT: Yeah blank msg cause i accidentally hit post somehow after I typed the subject 😛 sorry

SCSI RAID is more expensive than IDE simply because .. its faster , lower CPU usage .
As long as you have a PCI slot open you can get a RAID Controller Card

The setup will be costlier than the onboard IDE RAID available

ok, was asking if its available cause i only found these huge PCI cards 3 times the length of my typical cards for servers as scsi raid but i was looking in the wrong section =P Doh!

I bought a SCSI RAID controller - not the most recent but I didn't pay much for it. Should arrive tomorrow. I'll have two 18GB 10krpm IBM 36LZX Ultra160 on it.

Paid $70 for the RAID controller, and the 18GB IBM's ran $120 per drive not including shipping. My current plan is to RAID0 the drives and back them up using Norton Ghost and a 30GB IDE that I have. One nice bonus about SCSI RAID0 is that the SCSI RAID0 array's average liklihood of dying still higher than a single typical IDE drive.

BuddhaBart, it's a Mylex AcceleRAID 150 SCSI RAID PCI Card w/ 4MB cache. I got it on EBay - not sure if I can link it here but I tried. There was an afternoon about a week or so ago where a whole lot of RAID cards went up and the rest were higher end than this one. One bidder picked up a Mylex ExtremeRAID 2000 w/ 64MB for $170 or something ludicrous like that (it's like a $1000 card). Still not sure if I was silly to buy something like this that I don't need, but for $71, I figure it's hard to go wrong. UPS tracking says it will be delivered tomorrow.
