I've got a small collection of parts and am now ready to put together a raid file server. My only problem is that I'm not sure that the SCSI buss will support how I plan on connecting this up so I am looking for some advice. What I want to do is put the drive array in an external case and then connect it to my server via an external cable to the SCSI Raid controller. From what I know about SCSI the main thing I would have to look out for is keeping the SCSI buss (total cable length) from being too long. The total buss length with the cables I have will be 9ft - will this be too long or degrade the performance?
Below are the components I have to put this together:
DPT PM3334UW Raid SCSI controller (Adaptec)
6 Compaq 9.1GB SCSI HDD Model # BD009222BB
8 bay 5 1/4" Drive enclosure
HDDB68 Internal/External Adapter
HDDB68 6ft External Cable
3ft 7 connector Foxconn HDDB68 internal ribbon cable
Active Terminator for Internal cable
Thanks for your help!
Jim
