SCSI problems with Windows XP Pro

Hi all,

Finally found out why Windows XP wouldn't install on my system. Turns out that for some reason, it hates my Adaptec 2930U2 Ultra-2 SCSI controller. If the card is in the box, XP won't install (won't boot if the card gets installed after the OS either, despite being listed as compatible under the Windows HCL). I'll be trying several options tonight when I get home (flashing the controller BIOS, disconnecting all the devices on the SCSI bus, etc.) but I'd like to know what controllers people have used successfully. My main requirements are having a PCI bus controller with at least Ultra2 support, that I can use an internal 50pin, internal 68pin, and external connector at the same time (I have an HP Scanjet 4c externally, a number of 50 pin internal devices, and a Plextor 40x UW CD internally as well). Right now, Tekram seems to be one of the few that will do what I want other than Adaptec (I'm leery of the 29160N after this, unless I can find one to test with first) with their DC390U2W and DC390U3 controllers, but very few manufacturers are clear on their Windows XP support, and I don't want to be stuck with an expensive controller that doesn't work. Thoughts, anyone?

I have the same MoBo. It seems to me that I read something in here that explained limitations in the HighPoint BIOS made for bad playmates between PCI SCSI cards and on-board Raid. This site recommends not trying to use both PCI and On-Board SCSI devices. It suggests picking one or the other.

SO far Ive used 2940, 2940AU, 2930CU, 2940 UW, 2940U2W, Initio/SIIG UW, ATTO DUAL U2W, all fine with XP. I am currently running 3 SCSI controllers on my Cusl2 with PIII 1GHZ. Your problem sounds to me like maybe your scanner running off the external connection. Try disconnecting that and see if your problem is corrected.
