Basically the difference between a 68 pin & 80 pin connection is that the 80 pin connection is meant for use with Hot Swap SCSI Backplanes that are typically on found in high end servers and disk arrays. A 68 pin drive has a separate power header (the four pin molex connector you see in a pc case) whereas the 80 pin receives it's power through the cable/connector.
I would like to add that you can run a LVD (low voltage differential) drive either a LVD or SE (single ended) scsi card with no problems.
