SCSI OS install issues!

I currently run XP from an IDE drive. It boots from the IDE drive, and all of the XP files reside on the IDE drive. With the SCSI drives installed, XP (on the IDE) drive, sees the SCSI drives, plays nice with them. File transfers are awesome, and never any errors!

But......when I install an OS onto a SCSI drive, I have problems

I installed XP onto a SCSI drive and I ran into video issues. The install would Blue Screen, and it seemed to be caused by an ATI video driver. This came up before I was able to even change the video driver. Happening with the default XP ATI 7200 driver.

I gave up troubleshooting that (I don't know why), and just re-formatted that particular SCSI drive.

Today, I installed Windows.NET Server onto another of my SCSI drives, and it installed fine, but then I ran into all sorts of errors The biggest of all was the "Delayed Write Back failure". This error kept popping up...non-stop.

I rebooted, and all the settings I changed from the initial install were gone. It seems that it cannot write to the drive the installation was on (my F:\). It would pop up that message with the file it could not append

So.....I am left wondering if maybe the SCSI card is defective...or something like that.

I ran CHKDSK and it would not complete I could CHKDSK any drive but the Windows.NET Server drive....very odd. I thought maybe the drive was write-protected...but that is not the case!

Recap/Notes:

The video issue error was when I installed XP onto a 9.1GB U160W 10k RPM SCSI HDD. Todays issue was with Windows.NET Server installed onto an 18.1GB U160W 10k RPM HDD.

The SCSI card in use is an Adaptec 2940U2W.
ECS K7S5A SiS chipset motherboard,
AMD 1600XP CPU (not OCd),
512MB DDR PC2100,
Radeon 8500 64MB DDR AGP (on a Trinitron 21" monitor),
Radeon 7200 32MB DDR PCI (on a Viewsonic 17" monitor),
Sony 24x10x40x CDRW,

Thanks all:D

Ed you are just having a bad hair day bud. I see no reason for errors but for bad driver issues or IRQ conflicts, and considering you are using two video cards, on in AGP an one in PCI, that may very well be likely. I am running 4 SCSI controllers as I speak on a Tyan Thunder, perhaps one of the most difficult boards to keep happy. You definitely want to give your SCSI controller the least demanding IRQ arrangement, preferrably an IRQ of its own. Sharing with a video card is generally a no no, so dont let the controller share IRQ with it or a sound card or network controller or USB controller if at all possible. However from what you post, it sounds mostly like driver issues. Be sure you have updated all your stuff with the XP site and Adaptec also has updated drivers if Im not mistaken for XP. If you have Win2K you might try that and see if there is a difference.

Did you low-level format with the adaptec controller? There may be an issue if the drive was formatted using a different brand of controller. If it is an OEM drive there may also be issues with a different controller. I have experienced this problem in the past with drives that were pulls from servers, etc. that had a bios that identified them as a "Compaq", etc. when they were in fact a Seagate or something.
