I have a SCSI subsystem with the following:

Plextor 40x Wide (for DAE)
Plexwriter 10/12/32S
Pioneer DVD-306S

I want to add a DVD burner but I am not sure if I should just get rid of the CD and CDRW drives at this point. I have room in the case and a spot on the ribbon cable for a new drive (I will have to add an ATAPI to SCSI adapter).

Anyone with experience let me know....I don't have to sell off anything, but if I will get no benefit then I might as well lower my resources.

Thanks
Chris

I like SCSI also but almost no one is making true SCSI optical drives any more. If anything, I would remove the SCSI burner and leave the rest. Don't bother with a SCSI to IDE adapter, it'll cost you nearly as much as a drive. If you can put the DVD burner on an IDE channel by itself, that would be best for overall performance.

I got rid of my 40x Plextor SCSI drive and am using the Plextor PX-708A DVD+/-RW drive right now to do both DVD and CD burning, and find that it is actually quicker than my old Plextor CD-RW. I would just use the one drive for everything, and then possibly get either a DVD-ROM or a CD-ROM to use as a general use optical drive.

I have 2 HD EIDE drives and a superdisc....I am not sure how adding a EIDE DVD burner will impact that.

I don't want to add a 1 drive option as I burn mostly legally with DVD->DVD or CD->CD options.

I do alot of DAE and will be doing a lot of DVD -> DVD burning.

bump for more suggestions and a slightly edited topic to explain my problem more.

I am willing to start over on drives if I need to, but I am happy with my performance now (my plextor 40x is no longer the DAE king, but it's close enough for me).

My motherboard is an older ASUS TUV4X with 2 EIDE capable of 100MB/s, I am using a LSI LSIU40SE (dual channel 80mb/s, 40mb/s per channel SCSI)....

Thanks
