is it possible to have a VP6 with a adaptec 29160N card and use the onboard RAID ports

essentially, i have some drives in a RAID array on my raid controller. i just have a dvd & cdrw on the normal ata100 controllers. i just installed a 29160N scsi card with a 15k rpm cheetah but my raid controller no longer boots. is it possible to have the SCSI drive as a boot drive and the other drives to function on the RAID controller?
