I must admit that I have never given SCSI much attention at all cept from what little I read in books. Just wondering about these products that I am buying:
Adaptec 29160 U160.......is it any good? Worth a $150?
Is the 9GB Quantum Atlas 10k U160 as good as any other decent 10k rpm HDD? It is coming with a adapter to change it to the normal 68pin LVD connector and power adapter.
Thanks so much for thoughts and anything really as I have neglected to read more about SCSI.

If you are getting all the cables and terminators you might need with that Adaptec at that price, you're doing good. If not, they will be a considerable extra expense. You get a good supply of cables with the Tekram card for a few dollars more than that. I think Quantum SCSI drives are very good. Mine's been running for a long time with not one glitch.

Great card, great drive. I've had the 18 gig atlas 10k for prob 18 months now, and i dont have a single complaint, I love it. I'd recommend buying a retail boxed scsi card as they usually come with an lvd cable and active termintor.

The Adaptec 29160 is a very good SCSI card, I am using 3 of them in my systems. $150 is a great price, I paid $189 + shipping for just a bare card. You will need a 68pin LVD cable, buy it should come with it if it was a retail card. The Atlas 10k is also a very good SCSI HD, it has a 68pin LVD connector on it so you wont need any adapters, just a 68pin LVD SCSI cable with terminater-VERY IMPORTANT- Very easy to set up and a very stable SCSI card. I wont even go into the advantages of SCSI, I will most likely start a long discussion, but I switched over to SCSI about a year ago and have since NEVER bought another IDE Device for any of my systems. I am running a U160/Ultra 3 SCSI RAID Array on 2 of my systems with 3 Seagate Cheatah X15's on a ATTO UL3D Dual Channel Ultra3 SCSI RAID card in RAID 0 and 3 Seagate Cheatah 18XL, U160 18.4GB HD's on a Adaptec 2100S U160 SCSI RAID card in RAID 0, the performance is amazing, especially on the ATTO UL3D and X15's, twice the performance of the 2100S and Cheatah 18XL's. You will most definately enjoy your new SCSI config.
