SCSI Help & Barracuda Questions

I have a mobo with built in 2940u2w chipset and using the barracuda 180gb x 4 raid 5.. If I do 180x3, it boots up with no problem, but when I add in the forth drive, it hangs. do you think the adapter is having problem with the fourth drive in raid 5 format ?

when I do 2 mirror ie, 180x2 and 180x2 it comes up fine but not 180x4.

Do you think it's a limitation of my 2940u2w or the adaptec raid controller ?

3 330W redudant power, it's a adaptec aac-364 4channel u2w controller

Is there a newer BIOS for the adater, or have you emailed adaptec? It is possible the Adapter doesnt know how to register More then 400 Gigs in an array. You should be able to try and configure a 0+1 array using all 4 drives to test this theory.

Tried raid 0 stripe, i just upgrade the bios on the adapter last week to get these drives, they dont know anything yet.. but i'm gonna try raid 5 using 4 drive but using 2 containers so it's like 250 raid 5 and 250 raid 5..

it seems to work by creating two drive using

253GB @ 84x4
253GB @ 84x4

crap that SUCKED, well, now I gotta get two more drive as main boot drive and use the two raid for data.. which isn't that bad

Final setup

RAID 1
SCSI 0+1 - 18GB RAID1 - W2K Server Boot Drive

RAID 5
SCSI 2+3+4+5 - 253GB RAID 5 - Data drive - Container 1
SCSI 2+3+4+5 - 253GB RAID 5 - Data drive - Container 2
