SCSI HD not so hot

I have a configuration of a Seagate Cheetah 10k rpm SCSI LVD HD. My controller's an adaptec 2940 U2W. With the same configuration, planethardware.com posted under HD tach that they were able to achieve throughput of a sustained 31MB/sec (around that). I tried it with the same program and only got 18MB/sec sustained. Is there something I didn't do? I got an i815 chipset, does it not recognize SCSI peripherals or something?
