SCSI DVD installation problems

I bought a SCSI DVD player (Pioneer DVD 305 S) and set the jumpers to SCSI ID 2 and termination on. When i boot, the computer locks up at the SCSI BIOS... If i enter the SCSI BIOS and do a scan, it locks up while checking ID 2...

I'm using an Adaptec 2940 SCSI Adapter, the Host Adapter is set to ID 7 with termination enabled. The DVD drive is the last device on the chain, no others on the chain. There's also a jumper to set sector size, either 2048 or 512. I've tried both to no avail, wouldn't imagine that'd be causing the problem though.

Thanks in advance

i've moved the ID from 2 to 3 with the same results... i haven't tried with termination off... i'll do that now.

ok, this is odd...

I have another computer (file server) with the Adaptec 2940 UW wide (slightly better, more support, etc)... so i took the DVD player to that machine, put it on the chain with ID 1 and set to terminate (was at the end of chain). Amazingly it worked!!! No problems whatsoever. So I swapped the cards. Test the file server with the 2940... all systems go. I test my workstation with the 2940 UW and it doesn't even show up. I play with the card some more and finally get the machine to recognize it (probably wasn't seated correctly) but still no DVD player! I went into the BIOS and did a device scan which caused a lock up.

I'm at a loss here... how can it work in one machine and not the other??? The specs of each machine are in my system rigs... "file server" and "mini me" are the machines involved and "mini me" is the problem machine...

Any help is GREATLY appreciated... thanx

It's important to note that no jumper settings where changed on the drive when i swapped cards between machines

PROBLEM FIXED

When all else fails, swap out the cable... imagine that, all this trouble and it's the cable :(
