SCSI drive undetected

OK I have tekram controller with dual channel
I have a fujitsu man3367mp on the 1st channel and is boot device (works) I have fujitsu MXF3364LC on the second channel. In the past it worked fine, but now it says "F:\ is not accesible device is not attached" and when I scan for hardware changes in the device manager it removes it however when windows restarts it appears again every time and still cannot be accessed. Sometimes I was able to access it by changing the time out time in the symbios utility, but now it appears that I cannot access it at all.

Could something have messed with the system and confused it like another diriver?

Will it damage performance to put both drives on one channel?
I will try that now.

You aren't providing enough info to allow for useful help. The second drive "MXF..." isn't even listed on Fujitsu's web site. They have no drive with a middle letter "X". What type of drive is it (SE/LVD) and what interface (50-pin, 68-pin, 80-pin)? Which model of Tekram adapter? Do you have both channels properly terminated for the type of drive, etc.? What, if any, changes did you make to your system just prior to its failure? Anything else you can think of...

😕

The MXF does exist, and it can be found by searching on google, I think it is a modified fujitsu for business sector, it is 80 pin, both were terminated right (since it worked and then quit) plus I happen to know they are.
DC-390U3D Ultra/160 Controller, unfortunately I cannot be sure of what caused it, if I knew I would fix it. I put both drives on the same channel and it works now, perhaps my cable was bad?

The cable is a braided type and some of the wires are pulled out of the plastic sheath it is in, but they still connect on both ends and it still worked off and on so I am not sure.

Thanks for the help though.

One other question does it limit performance to have them on the same channel? If not I will just leave them.

edit:
Actually now that I think about it I think that installing ulead video studio 6 did it, but I have no idea why, as no drivers were installed. Very strange.

Hmm...sounds like your cable diagnosis may have merrit. I just had a LVD cable go south on me (same deal with the plastic sheath). Both drives worked, but the would stay SE. A new cable perked it right up.

Try another ribbon, Also check the power connector, Some Y power connecters can be faulty and intermittent.
Ive gone through the same problem over the many years of puting, Now Everytime I get a new supply I solder the crymps to avoid it.
The vibration of the machine/hardware make it an intermittent bitch to trace.

As mentioned above ribbon can do it to.

Those 80-pin SCA can be tricky to get to work right and SCSI cabling is much more critical than IDE, particularly with high-speed LVD signaling. So a new cable would probably allow you to put it back on the other channel - but as you know those LVD cables aren't cheap!
. I did a google search on MXF3364 and came up with nothing - google offered MAP3364 as an alternate.
Also searched on Pricewatch - nada...
. Anyhoo you got it working and that's what's important.

Thank-you for all the help guys.

zepper you are right, i.e. the mxf is the map version for SUN or somebody like that. It is a designation so that if it fails they know that they dont have to replace it.

I had a seagate like that too b4 where the number was weird on not on their sight, and that is why it was like that. ( I got the seagate off ebay for real cheap, but it failed Hard Drive outlet , replaced it with the fujitsu since Seagate would not. Unfortunately I would not buy from them any more b/c they changed form a one year warranty to 30 day, but they have great deals if someone here wants to build a raid array or something.

Yeah I am going to wait on buying a new one(cable), b/c it runs fast still.
I am not sure about the loss of performance if any. (perhaps if it was on 64bit PCI instead of 32bit I might notice who know though)

anyway thanks

Anedotal blah blah:
I'm having a few issues with my 80pin 15K drink due to my sh!tty adapter. My 15K drive@40sync boots as fast as my 10Kdrive@160sync. Saying "it runs fast still" might not be giving you the full SCSI pleasure. With a few extra bucks, you really might include yourself into the elite class of a$$ kickin' hardware.
