SCSI Controller Problem

I have an Adaptec 2930CU SCSI controller that is controlling two SCSI devices: a Plextor 40x CD-ROM (narrow) and a Plextor 4/12 CD-R (also narrow). The CD-R is attached to the end of the cable and therefore has termination enabled. The CD-ROM does not have termination enabled, and termination is enabled on the controller itself. I don't have any external devices attached to it. I've had this setup for several months and it's always worked fine (and it still seems to), but about a week ago, I noticed that errors began appearing in the System Log (I'm running Windows 2000 SP1) that relate to the SCSI controller. Specifically, I get an error saying: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Scsi\aic78xx1. This error appears everytime I reboot the machine and at other random times, but the error messages don't seem to be related to actually accessing either of the drives (I don't always get errors when I try to read cds, and errors often appear when there is no disk in either drive). The SCSI controller is using the drivers included in Windows 2000 and it isn't sharing irqs with anything else (it's on irq 9). Both drives still work fine (I can read CDs and burn CDs with no problems), but I'd really like to know what's going on. Does anyone have any ideas?

By the way, click the Systems link for more detailed specifications of the system.

I just checked event viewer since I saw your post, and wanted to see if I have similar errors. Indeed I saw many SCSI errors from days ago when I inadvertantly failed to terminate my buss when I swapped out a drive.. that can be expected. Then I saw a few times the same exact one you describe. It happened several days ago several times.. since then I have installed a microsoft SCSI hot patch you can find at the Win2k downloads section... since then I have no record of scsi errors in my event viewer.. maybe this will help you as well. 🙂
