i received from a friend a ibm hdd # 34560, 68pin 4.3GB with the letters UW on the back (assuming it is ultra wide). i installed it on a card that is listed in the device manager of win2k pro as a Symbios Logic 825XS|D PCI SCSI Adapter, but it is has Compaq screen printed on it. now 2 things - there is no way to get into the scsi bios, no post screen or anything, you cannot boot to any device that is on the card, whether it be hdd or cd-rom, also there is a partition that says EISA Configuration that you cannot access via win2kpro's disk management console. when you right click on it, all the options are grayed out. this 31MB partitoin doesn't show up in windows explorer either. my questions are this - should i be able to get into the scsi bios? could there not be one? what is this EISA Configuration partition on the hdd?

thanks in advance

Maybe that SCSI card doesn't have a BIOS; some don't. Let's see what Google can dredge up on it...

:( ~ not much.

Any particular reason you want to use that drive? You could probably pick up a comparable-sized IDE drive for about $10-15 shipped over in the For Sale & Trade forum...

There is nothing that needs to be learned to be familiar with SCSI anymore, especially not SCSI hardware that is that old and doesn't require LVD cabling or a seperate active terminator. Instead of jumpering master/slave as with ATA, you jumper to a SCSI ID. Most SCSI cards especially old ones are automatically detected at boot and the drivers install. That's about it. For $35 you can grab a 9GB Atlas 10K 2 from Hypermicro which would be a bit more interesting the drive you have, though still pretty dated.

i already have a lsi u160 card with a atlas III 18GB drive, but i got this free so i figured i would use it. what is the eisa configuration partition? at the very least i would like to use the whole drive and not have a small partition on it.
