SCSI channels question

Please excuse my scsi ignorance...

I have an LSI53C1010 dual channel u160 controller. Recently added a second drive, and in the process of playing with 'things' seem to have them on the same channel (PCI BUS in controller confg?). Is this bad for thoughput? Should I config the ids so that they are on separate channels?

Also, what does dual channel mean? Is that for asynchronous transfer?

I would appreciate any input you might have to offer.

Thanks!

Drives:
cheetah 18GB 15k - boot
atlas 73GB 15k - where I run apps/etc.

Dual channel = your card has 2 separate channels.
Each channel can take 15 scsi devices, so it's no prob having them in the same channel.
For only 2 drives, you would not see a difference in I/O performance putting them in separate channels.

With more drives it helps to have 2 channels to share the load.

I don't get the PCI bus part? Your scsi card is in the PCI bus. Your card has 2 68pin connectors. To have the disks in separate channels, you need to physically put them in different channels = 2 scsi cables in separate connectors w. 1 drive in each cable...

hope this helps...

Thanks! The part about the "PCI BUS" is what I see when I look at the scsi card config menu. It shows two listings with PCI BUS 2 on each of them. Anyway, I just wondered if I needed to move one (via jumper settings on drive to designate scsi id) in order to get maximum.
