Hi there,

I have an ADAPTEC 2030U with a yamaha 8x8x24 CDR, and I'm running two OS's, W98 and W2K.

About a week ago, I started getting a strange message right after the boot in W2K:

PIC

This message shows up in every W2K boot. After I receive this error, the CDR drive just disappeers... :/

In W98 everything keeps running fine, and I'm able to use the CDR drive without a single problem...

I tried the latest ADAPTEC drivers and no go.

Can someone please help me????

Pic works ok for me..

Anyway, Have a look in the control panel/system/device manager and see if there are any yellow exclamation marks next to any of the devices you have installed - especially the SCSI card and the CDR drive, And act on any errors you might find.

If there is nothing there i would go into control panel choose Add/Remove hardware and remove the SCSI card from win2k, once windows reboots it will find it again and sort out the software for it, if you are lucky..

Hope this helps..

Thanks for the replies.

As for the uninstalling the scsi card, I already did that, but the message still appears :/

Also, there are no exclamations points in the device manager.

What CD-writer software are you using? I've seen this error occur occasionally on systems running Adaptec / ROXIO DirectCD. The software's progress toward full functionality in W2K has been painful and slow on some systems. The message you're getting is what you should see on a W2K system when you click on the "Unplug or Eject Hardware" icon in the system tray and choose to eject a device. Why it gets spontaneously activated is anybody's guess, but I have seen one tactic correct the problem for SCSI and USB writers. (Remember, this is for the ROXIO software. Don't know whether or not it works for anything else.) I just uninstall ALL of the CD writer software (EasyCD Creator and DirectCD). I shut down the system, remove the device physically from the system. I install EasyCD Creator, then (without rebooting) I install DirectCD. Then I reboot. Then I update both EasyCD Creator and DirectCD (again without rebooting between installations). Then I reboot again. Finally, I install the device again. (In the case of USB, I just power it up then connect it to the USB port. In the case of SCSI device, I power down the system, connect the device, and power up.) Sounds dumb, and it's a pain, but it has worked on four VERY different systems for me. Note that Adaptec/ROXIO do suggest installing the software before sticking the device in the system. And it does seem to work better that way.

I hope you find a solution.

Regards,
Jim

I had the same problem with my IDE DVD and CDRW drives in Windows 2000

I went and did everything I could think of but it didn't fix the problem.

I tryed a new IDE cable and everything was ok.

Thanks again for the support.

jaywallen,

I don't have any kind of burning software on W2K :/ For the time being, I'm using just W98.

I'm going to try to play a little with adaptec's reg keys...

Blayze, I already thought of that and I'm going to try it as a desperate measure, allthough I'm not too confident (it works on W98 with this cable...)

I have an Adaptec 2930 and an Yamaha 2x4x6 and I'm running two OSES too. Very similar eh?

And I also get that error!!!! But not about the cd, I get that fuicking error about my USB hub.

I figured it was some bad connection since I have quite a few usb wires connected till I reach the hub. But maybe I'm wrong about the reason.

In case I'm not wrong try checking your connections.

A note of hope. Whenever I have that, it drives me crazy, but it goes away the same way it appears. And stays away for a long time. If you just started having this problem, hang on tight, it may go away soon.
