I need some help on selecting the right SCSI card. I am looking for a cheap card to attach my HP Deskjet 5p Scanner with. My scanner is about 3 years old. The cable that runs from the scanner to the card reads as below:
"AWM E89980 SUNF PU STYLE 2990" and then has some info on temperatures which i think will be irrevelant. Judging from that info I believe I need a SCSI 2990 card. I can not seem to find on in any of the stores around here. If anyone has any suggestions to exactly what I need it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Determine if the device is 50 pin or 68 pin. I'm guessing it's 50 pin, but you never know. I can't tell by those cable markings u listed. Then go look at Adaptec and Tekram SCSI cards, find the cheapest SCSI-II card you can that has the correct external connector.

I'm actually sure that it is a 50-pin device, try a Tekram DC-390 or DC-390U, both have an external 50 pin connector. I think that should be all you need.

You need plain 50pin Ultra scsi (not to confuse w/Ultra160) card that has 25 pin external plugin, like the ones they used to bundle w/some of the scsi burners. Just make sure that it's supported in the OS you're planning to use it in. I have Adaptec 2906 w/my HP 4c scanner.

25 pin eh? Shows how much I know about SCSI. I thought SCSI-II devices were usually 50-pin, but then again I've never used a SCSI scanner.

I would double check the pinouts...I have a HP 5P and I use a mini 50 pin High Density connector. Adaptec sells a card that will run it for about $39.

well i just counted the pins and there are 2 rows of 25 little pins. So that would make 50. So now I am guessing I need a 50 pin SCSI-2 card? Is that right?

Yes, I think I've got a Symbios Logic Card that just might do the trick for you. PM me about it if you're interested.
