I've had my scsi drive for a while now its a Seagate Cheetah X15 with this card. I'm using a friends old rounded scsi cable, its a really long cable and i dont think it even has a terminator. I'm going to compusa tomorrow for a firewire card so i figured i would pick up a new scsi cable. I saw this cable and was wondering if it is a good cable for my setup. Im willing to spend more and I want the most speed possible, however I would really like to get the cable tomorrow so i dont want to order one online. I could drive down to either Directron or Frys Electronics if they have a better cable.

Btw i bought the drive from Hyper Micro so i have the converter that they give with their drives.

I have a couple Adaptec scsi cables with the LVD/SE termintator built in. I'll sell you one for $20 shipped paid via paypal if you are not in a real hurry. I can send it via USPS priority so you would have it in a couple of days.

You can PM cakin if you would like a second opinion on the cables. I sold him three cards and three cables.

These cables are brand new and come with Adaptec raid controllers. They look identical to the one in your link except these adaptec have more drive connectors on them.

Thanks for the offer, but i would really like to get the cable tomorrow. I also dont need many drive connectors because I dont plan on getting any more scsi drives.

if you want to save money, I got a bunch of 68 pin lvd 4 connector with a terminator for 3.95 usps shipping, basically free. These are pretty new, pull from system

Yeah, you're going to need termination for the drive to run in Ultra160 or Ultra320 mode (either one's fine for a single drive), so that cable at CompUSA, or another LVD cable with an LVD terminator, would be the ticket. Hopefully either your 68-80 adapter or the drive itself can provide power for the terminator. Good luck! :)

if that's a second or third generation x15 then your seek time seems high.
I get in the mid 90s for read speed with the 2nd generation cheetah!

Heres my HD Tach scores. this is after a fresh reboot. (for some reason i can never close msn)

Those scores seem about right for that drive, to me anyways.

the seek time is about double what the drive is rated at.

Since HD Tach is measuring access time instead of pure seek time, it's probably about right on that count. Is your drive an original X15 or is it the X15-36LP? Because the second-gen and third-gen 15k drives are definitely faster than the original X15. From the speeds on your STR graph in HD Tach, it looks like you've got an X15-36LP...

It's a X15-36LP. Well I went to Compusa and they didnt have any scsi cables so I stopped by a local mom and pop store and picked up an UltraSCSI cable for 2 scsi devices. I also picked up a terminator, if this doesnt improve my speed I will just take them back.
