I am trying to install winxp pro on a my new scsi drive and having no luck. I have my mainboard bios set to boot to scsi, the scsi adapter card bios is set to boot to the appropraite device id for my drive and the correct terminator, but it still will not boot. in fact the windows will not boot at all if the adapter card is in.

is there something i am missing

I am using an abit kt7a-r motherboard, an adaptec 29160n adapter, and an ibm 10k rpm 18.4gb drive.

Need to install the scsi drivers before windows hit F6 when installing windows. The "Press F6 if you have any third party RAID or SCSI drivers you wish to install".

It used to be that the SCSI device had to be set to zero or one for it to be a bootable device.

I've always done it that way, so I don't kow if it's still an issue or not.

Good Luck

Except if the mobo won't even post, then it has not even accessed the adapter's bios.

What IDE drives do you have connected? Try disconnecting all IDE drives and see if it will post.

Also do you have any IRqs hard set in the bios?

Is this a IDE RAID board? Try disabling that also in the mobo bios.

thanks, but iiut wont even get that far. if the scsi adapter is in, the system wont even get past the post.
Are you able to see SCSI card initializing your SCSI devices? Or you can't even get that far?

Also, what are the IDs for you SCSI devices and how do you have them terminated?

thanks for the inout everyone, but i got it working after trial and error.
the scsi bios had always been working and the mainboard raid had been disabled,
what eventually did the trick was to remove all of my pci cards- install the os and then reinstall the cards.
