scroll doesnt work on ipod... help!

for some reason... the scroll on my 2nd gen 5gb ipod no longer works, or if it does, its very sporadically. its not one of the older ipods with the wheel that actually scrolls. i took off the wheel, and cleaned it out the best i could, but it still wont work.

also, the menu button works only if you push it really hard, and i still havent figured out how to get at the back of it to clean it, even though ive taken apart my ipod as much as i could.

is there any way to fix this stuff? or should i just look at getting one of the newer 3rd gen ipods with the solid-state buttons?

Try recharging it.

its fully charged, everything works fine except for the scroll. it plays music, switches tracks, the enter button works, the menu button works (if i push it real hard), just the scroll doesnt work.
