screwed

Lifer
i guess not going to college and not really knowing what i wanted to do as a career/job has really screwed me over.

i still don't know what i want to do and i'm 26. i want out of my current job. my boss just keeps pissing me off. He's pretty much an idiot, doesn't tell me what i need to know, acts like i'm stupid, etc. some of you have seen my rants about him.

i just can't find any other jobs, or at least anything that i'm interested in and qualified for or anything that seems interesting at all.

i still have about $16k left from going to computertraining.com MS cert course (which is a waste of time imo). I hate school with a passion plus i really can't afford it until i pay off my current loan. I don't make quite enough to move out on my own and be able to afford other things like furniture, clothes, and food. I couldn't deal with a roommate unless it was a good friend, of which i don't have any that aren't married and have their own places.

i just feel really stuck and not going anywhere and i can't stand it.

I'd say go to school but since you hate school with a passion, no point in that. What do you expect to happen with no schooling?

i make 33k a year. how much could i make? i don't know.

i don't even feel confident doing what i do now and i've forgotten most of what i learned at computertraining.com because i haven't used it.

What are your expenses? If you are still home with your parents, can you cut back on expenses to get the debt taken care of? School blows but it's often the only way to fix your current situation, especially when you are young.

You dont NEED to go to school..SCHOOL IS NOT FOR EVERYONE...its not for A LOT of people actually..its just society tells everyone they have to go to get a good job. Tons of succesfull people have done very well without ever going to school..

Of course a college degree will help you get a lot of jobs otherwise un available or hard to get..but there are other paths.

Learn a trade...Plumming, heating, electrical, and so on...they can make tons of money. My neighborhood is very well off..most drive BMWs and such and have jobs as execs or doctors....but there is one guy down the street..he is a mechanic that worked his way up to owning his own place....his hands may be the dirtiest hands I have ever seen..but he is happy and makes a killing...

Pontifex,

What do you do in your current job? And what would you like to do?

Since you are still living at home, I think now is the best time to consider taking a pay cut (if need be) to take a job in the field that you really want to do. Work there for a few years, build up some experience, and start climbing the career ladder.

You don't absolutely need school-- especially if you are talking about a career somewhere in IT. The fact that I used to teach college math means absolutely zilch to my current employer...

Life opens a lot of doors, just gotta be ready to walk yourself through them, can't be done for you.

If you hate your job that bad, quit, find another one first though if you can, but if you can't then fvck it, quit.

Do something to make the change, don't want for it to happen for you!

Good luck.

i could afford to move out, but i wouldn't be able to afford anything else besides my bills and rent. i wouldn't have enough to live off of for food and other essential stuff.

my official title is network admin but i'm really just a patch/fix-it/errand monkey. what do i want to do? i still really have no idea. there's a few things i think might be interesting but i don't think i'd be able to do any of them without college or at least training.

the main problem is that everything that i'm looking at requires experience or this or that cert or degree. all of which i don't have.

no, central PA.

If your (Adult) enough to "decide" furthering your education isn't worth it, it's time to move out on your own.

33k a yr is fine for the "education" you have and your age, not sure what you expected?

EDIT: haha , sorry bout the empty post accident.

I make 35k a year and have 2 roommates. They boost my income level to $45k a year and I'm slowly paying off debt and making a mortgage payment every month. Trust me, roommates aren't all bad....

If you live somewhere pricey, like CA....then you're going to get ripped off in the housing dept. You should try looking at the cheapest ways to live and not worry about furniture. Maybe see if you can start your own business and get some investors to pay you. 😀

33k in central PA is some good money - plenty to live comfortably on your own. When I was making less than that I owned a furnished house and two cars (in Indiana). You need to re-think where your money is going...

a furnished house and 2 cars on 33k? not in PA. unless furnished house = trailer and bean bag chairs and 2 cars = 1 sitting on cinder blocks, rusting in the front yard and one that barely runs.
