I have had several 30 days past due issues in the last few months on different cards. I have now paid all the balances.

How long (months years) will it take to undo any damage?

Update: got a credit score.. only one of the 4 lates is showing up. Hit my credit by about 7-80 pts.

It will be out there for 7-10 years but assuming this is your first offense and you continue to make all of your payments your FICO will be nearly back to normal in a year or so. It's very, very important not to let it happen again.

I've been out of the credit-report scene for a few years now, but generally a few 30-day lates is not a huge deal-- especially
if they all occurred during the same time period.

They hurt you plenty your first year after their appearance, but their significance quickly fades after the second year.

They should fall off of your credit report completely in 7 years.

The 30 day lates will show on your credit report for 7 years, but will only count against your credit score for 2 years, provided you keep a clean payment history.

Check with your CC. They don't immediately mess your credit on first 30+ days delinquency.

I think after about 60-90 days, they report. Call up and ask.

Hit up creditboards, since you've already paid the balances (and presumably re-established a good relationship with the involved creditors) you might be able to sweet talk them into deleting them.

Look for "goodwill letter." If you have any left unpaid look for "PFD" (pay for delete). It never hurts to ask.

Is this still true if you call them up and ask for a break on the late charges and they say ok? I've been a day or two late a couple times in my life because I do things manually and sometimes screw up... but I always assumed they just scratched it from your record completely as if it never happened, rather than just the charges.

If you were over 30 days late they still have the option of reporting. The late fees are an entirely separate issue.

The big thing here is don't go over 30 days. Up until then they can't touch you (aside from ratejacking + fees).
