i was unlocking my 1600+ via conductive grease- yes i filled the pits first with non-conductive grease. but... of course, i screwed up the first time i crossed the bridges... so, i cleaned the processor off, and started again.
Unluckily, when i put the processor in to test it again it registered is an XP processor at 1200 mhz... it appears that one of the bridges is permanently crossed... i cant clean it off... any help? I've re-unlocked it, and the highest i can get the multi is 1800+ Of course i can OC the FSB to all h@ll...

Greases might be a bad choice for insulating material as if they don't dry, they might allow conductive inks to seep down and make contact with sub-surface ground plane...making a permanent LO/direct ground which cannot be reset HI. Signal levels L to R = ...

HI-HI-HI-HI-LO = 10.5X = 1600's default.
HI-LO-LO-LO-LO = 11.5X = 1800'S default.

But that doesn't necessarily tell us which signal busses might be grounded if the 11.5X data was the result of a bios setting. You need to generate "more and specific data"...like I set xxX but got yyX for as many settings as you can get to post. Then anyone who knows Multiplier Code can debug such a "Table of set vs get" to find which specific bridges have developed faults during closing...one piece of data is not enough, esp as you don't say what was set to get 11.5X.

We'd suggest first getting rid of the grease and redoing the closing of the L1s.

I screwed up unlocking mine too but nothing happened at all guess the graphite wasn't conductive enough

try cleaning it off with acetone (fingernail polish) since u used grease. When you get your chip back to spec and u try again, fill the gaps with superglue! make a mask out of tape to prevent it from leaking. only let the glue set for 10seconds then smooth it out and make sure none got on any of the bridges THG made a nice video about it i can put a linky on here if u want it

Sure! here's that Linky to THG's video. They used conductive silver stuff to connect the bridges but from what i heard the auto repair defrogger is better. I've never tried myself i only use a pencil and failed miserably. Hope you have fast internet, it's about 10megs (2minutes).

I wouldn't use super glue if I were you ,its a bitch to remove if you mess up.

Use Silicon sealant instead ,its a good insulator ,can take the heat ,& is easy to remove if need be (sets as a soft rubber)
To applie it to the pits is easy ,just put a blob in the middle of the L1 pits & spread it with your finger! ,then wipe off the excess with a soft cloth/tissue (make sure you don't remove any from the pits).If you use white Silicon you can see how well you've applied it.Give it at least 1 day to set then ,then with a pin carefully clean off the L1 contacts (to remove any resisdual Silicon) & join the bridges:)

Inccidently I messed up my 1st 2 attempts at unlocking (well 2nd lasted for a while;)) & I also got stuck with a below std mulitplier ,x7! ,it all looked clean but after I carefully cleaned it off again it returned to normal:).
Next time I'm going to join 1 L1 bridge at a time & install the CPU ,so if I mess up again I know which 1 it is!

my screwup isnt a recent thing, Overvolt, I've gotten better at using this stuff... my problem is that i cant clean out the grease from the pits. The acetone isnt doing it... i think im gonna try using silicone: let it turn to rubber, then pull it off, it ought to pull out the grease as well... Thanks for the help.

Good idea ,worth a try ,though I don't know whether the grease will stick to it very well.

I unlocked my 1900 with a red crayon to fill the gaps. I then used the conductive paint from a Defogger Repair Kit to connect the bridges. It worked liked a charm on the first try. I covered the contact points with tape before filling gaps and then methodically masked off each bridge before painting. I have been running 204 FSB on my A7N8X for the past two weeks.

try a can of contact cleaner in an arisol can. you can blast it right into the pits.
WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES OR A FACE SHIELD! it will burn your eyes out WHEN it splashes back at you.
