Here's my situation. On Friday I had to re-up my membership with Gold's gym. They had a new deal going so I sign up for $99 down and $19 a month (no long term contract just $19 a month for the rest of my life if I want it) and had to pay first and last month of course. So I put down $137. Well I go into the gym on Monday and find out it has been bought out by Fitness 19. They have a deal $59 down and $12 a month for the rest of your life (it's a steal). I call up my credit card and sure enough there is a $137 amount on my credit card bill. I haven't called Gold's corporate but their site basically says any billing issues need to be brought up to the local branch. Well the local branch doesn't exist anymore. Would you call up Gold's corporate or dispute the charges with my credit card company?

I'd first call Gold's Corporate and then if that doesn't work dispute it with your CC.

Disputes can be a hassle, even with a good company. You have to put the dispute in writing and wait for the company to take action. I'd say go to Gold's (or whatever they're calling themselves now) and see what they'll do. If you don't receive satisfaction, file a dispute.

As good as "firebomb the place" sounds I think I'll dispute it with my CC. I'll claim I never received the goods I paid for, which is the truth. I'll put a call into Gold's as well though just to let them know of the dirty business practice. My one buddy signed up in January for the same deal that I did. When he called corporate they told him he could cancel but since the branch was no longer there to cancel directly, that he would have to fill out a form and pay $100 to cancel his membership. He has autowithdrawal from his bank. I told him to tell his bank that he will not accept payments to Gold's Gym anymore. That place has pissed me off more than once and I'm glad new management has come in and taken over.
