i have kinda problem here and hope that some of you guys have answer.

so i set-up the pc for my old man. win2k with all sp's and, as he wanted it, nav2003 but only a late beta. nontheless everything worked fine, until... until he didn't want nav2003 anymore because it was only a late beta. so i told him to download avg antivirus. he uninstalled nav2003, and installed avg free edition. but since then he can't do anything online. the dial-up setting are correct and it connects, but he is unable of everything. even ping doesn't work anymore, no udp or tcp is possible (means no surfing and mailing or anything). so i told him (as he has troubles with all the options) to just uninstall avg again and to try to surf after that. but still no connection possible, so i told him to reinstall the dfü connection, but still connecting to the isp works, but no traffic is possible at all (and the isp has no probs convcerning servers). he lives like 4 hours away, and i don't wat to lose all the time to just find out it is something redicioules. so i was hoping some of you guys have an idea.

thnx a lot

ps, he doesn't have a firewall or anything.

a system file or 2 may have gotten messed up

boot up to the win2k cd and do a repair installation (not recovery console)

you could also piddle around in the microsoft knowledgebase and see if there's anything in there about it

It sounds like you toffu'd the tcp/ip stuff. Go and try to uninstall the tcp/ip protocal, then reboot and then reinstall it. Delete the old connection and make a new one afterwards.

Tell him to write down any errors he gets, goto www.modemhelp.net (not org or com) and look up the error. Their info is a bit dated, but it should help you resolve the issue.
