Screw you Dish Network

To get good service you need to change providers for whatever you use. They know that apathy is behind a lot of "loyalty".

Charter recently raised my broadband price from $40 to $50. I emailed them and told them if they don't put it back I'm going to bellsouth and use their 12 month intro plan (which is great, but then I'd probably switch back again). Charter said they can lower it back to $40 for 3 months. Yaye! Now after three months I'm still switching. If they're in it for the money, then so am I, and I'll go where it costs less.

Get ready for picture quality that isn't as good.

direct tv quality is better than cable?

Yes. Direct TV, and Dish Network are higher quality then Digital Cable. Far less "down time" also.

I have Dish Network for my TV, but Comcrap for my Internet. I really hate the cable companies.

DirecTV IMHO is better overall anyways... I've had both Dish and DirecTV and I've gotta say I like the way DirecTV works a lot better than Dish...

I called recently about adding a DVR and they said I needed to purchase one, because we haven't been a member for a year yet (10 months).

I was hoping to rent the DVR like we do our current boxes, instead of paying $300 for one. They told me to call back after the first year was up and they might have a promotion then. Not sure if they will or not, but I'm going to give it a try before I purchase one.

Haven't had many problems with Dish, we had a few brief outages due to heavy rain last year, and one weekend our locals went out completely. Still better than the Adelphia Digital Cable we had before.

I have to agree.

Also, I was calling Dish, and Direct TV before I ordered just over a year ago, and CS is what swayed me to Dish.

i had nothing but trouble with Dish, their CS people were rude. they weren't helpful at all. they installed my dish on my roof without explicit permission and then when apartment management insisted that it be taken down, dish people came out and THREW the equipment off the roof.

no, i will never deal with dish again

plus, comcast offered me a deal too sweet to pass up.

comcast digital + HBO and High speed internet for $70.00 / month, 1 yr contract.

Agreed.

I have switched from DTV to digital cable a couple of times, and I always come back to DTV.

that's still a better deal than what you'd get with cable. and they still have better support than direct tv.

call your local dish installers, they can better tell you for sure that you can/can't get a 4 tv plan.

edit: I've switched from cable to direct tv to dish. Dish network has so far been superior in everyway. cost, support, and reception.

I think you can get a second receiver added to your plan for $5-10 per month... I know people that get in with their friends and obtain extra dishes. They work out the money and split the cost of the system 3 ways. So they get all the channels they want for like $20 a month. Don't do it because it's probably illegal....

I'm on comcast and have the limited package with 13 channels for $7.50. I only have that because I wanted to get high speed internet...which is great compared to DSL.

I have had both Comcast and Directv, and I would have to say that directv is about 1000x better. Most notably, the picture quality is much better. With digital cable they compress the hell out of some channels so that they actually look better on analog than digital. Plus my receiver's menu system totally sucks. And digital cable is $58 plus a crapload of fees.

If you do decide to go with comcast, be sure to ask about the dish buyback program. They will take $25 off of your bill for the first 16 months of your contract if you are a former dish subscriber. You have to give them your dish network equipment, though, although the guy who came to get mine was too lazy to get the dish off of the roof.

yeah I had some serious issues with dish network also. My sattelite would go out whenever it rained for more than an hour and it would STAY out until theuy came out to 'adjust' the dish. By the foruth time it happened and the fourth excuse as to why it was happening, I just cancelled them. It was great while it worked, but it was incredibly unreliable. The thing the sucked was my next door neighbor had dish too and theirs NEVER went out.

I get a sweet deal with our cable through Brighthouse.

We borr*cough*owed cable for about a year when we moved in (well, we did pay for the internet), after an audit, direct sales came around. He was able to offer the best deals ($20 for regular cable/$30 for digital/movie package).

Digital + Showtime/TMC + RoadRunner (5.0/384) = $70/month.

My question is, do you think you could get another receiver off ebay or something and plug it in?

When my dad went to cancel and they said they'll give us the deal but there will be a $200 installation charge. That's like an extra $15/month for the first year. Screw them. I told them we don't need it installed, the last guy you sent out here was a moron and he basically watched us install the Dish. (He wanted to just drill a hole through the outside wall...)

They said no, we charge the $200 anyway. So we just cancelled our account.

Right before, the guy said they can't waive the $200 charge, but he could give us Showtime, HBO and Cinemax for six months which he said was a $150 value and it was the best he could do.

We cancelled anyway 😉

All I can say is that's one stupid move.
I've leased my equipment these 8 years or so. If it breaks they have to replace it.
