Screw soundblaster! What about Philips?

I've had it with sb live value. I've tried everything from updating drivers, moving the card to other slots, and I still only get sound after I've pushed up the volume.

I've read a couple of reviews on the Philips Accoustic Edge sound card which looks promising. Is anyone using this card or has heard anything about - good or bad?

I replaced my SB Live Platnium 5.1 with it and I have been very pleased. The QMSS and the sound clarity are amazing. It works flawlessly in Win2K too...

Wow... six minutes. Insane3D, you feeling okay today? 😉

Seriously, the SBLive is significantly outdone by the Philips and Turtle Beach Santa Cruz offerings.

"Wow... six minutes. Insane3D, you feeling okay today?"

Yeah, I brewed the coffee early today...😉

I also have the card & am using it in a 4.1 setup to play games. It rocks and it doesn't mess w/IRQ's like the freakin' live cards do...

If we're talking about sound quality and compatibility, Creative Sound Blaster Live! definetely the winner. I've tried Santa Cruz last month and that card doesn't sound any better than my old SB16. In any case, try different cards for yourself and hear difference 🙂

Until you have heard the Philips, you can't really say the sound quality is best with the Live cards can you? I have used both and the sound quality is much cleaner and clearer with the Philips than the Live cards. I had an audible hiss with my Promedia's and they sounded very tinny until I switched to the Philips...

I've had the Live!, MX300, and now Santa Cruz. And I'd have to say that the Santa Cruz does sound better than the other two. Especially in gaming, where the Live! really blows.

Neoseeker has links to all the reviews i've seen on the card

generally they're really good - some of them look a little biased towards the card though

i've heard of people having win2k problems with it (see 3dsoundsurge's forums for more specific complaints), but i'm sure insane3d will yell at me for saying that soon...

Yell? Why? I sure there are people who have had some problems, but I can say that in my case anyway, it works like a charm in Win2K. Philips has also released a driver update for all OS's..🙂

We are all free to express our opinions the last time I checked..🙂

"does the philips have an optical out?"

No, it has front, rear, and center/LFE out, and SPDIF in and out...no optical.

insane: you just seemed to be very happy with the card 🙂
i think i'm about to buy one too

several of these complaints have been about either the left speaker right speaker not working anymore after the latest patch..
i dunno

wingnutz - yeah i don't understand it either.. compusa has the 2.1 and 4.1 versions of the card, but not the acoustic edge
their website doesn't even mention the acoustic edge.

Oh brother! 😛

<< SlipperySlope: does the philips have an optical out? >>

No - but personally I can live without it as long as I can get some great sound. 😉
