I remember a while back i read something about a hack/patch that allowed.. was it quicktime, or maybe windows media player (i dont remember) to play real media files, so that you did not need realplayer. Anyone know about this, cause i would like to get realone player of my computer.

Already been covered here!

You have to leave realplayer installed, but it uses a hacked older version of media player to play realmedia files

you have to read the instructions VERY CAREFULLY

there i also something for winamp that allows it to play real media files. but was hoping that there was a way to play .ram files that did not require realplayer to be installed. i guess not. i think i am just gonna get an older version of realplayer (realplayer 8 maybe?) and use the winamp plugin.

okay i got realplayer 8 and winamp 2.91, and tara's plugin. and i can play .ram files now in winamp! the only slight problem is that when i click on the link to the .ram files it doesnt automatically play in winamp, the save/open window pops up. if i click 'open' then it will start playing in winamp, but i would like it to automatically stat playing. i unchecked "always ask before opening this type of file", but it still gives me the save/open dialogue when i open a .ram link. anyone know why?
