Hey guys, as some of you will know my sister has been diagnosed with a Brain Stem Tumour and we are spending all the time we can looking for information on other treatments, clinical trials, second opinions etc...

This equates to ALOT of information, and a little help in narrowing it down would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. If any of you have had any experience in searching for help in this particular field, or know of any sites / forums that can help me find out what I am looking for, could you please post about it here.

Thanx in advance guys

Chris

Sorry to hear that dude... My warm wishes (not prayers.. I'm not religious) are with you and your family.. But, seriously, I think talking to a lot of doctors is far more useful than relying on us idiot geeks.. we think we know everything about anything yet the only skill that we have is the ability to type with one hand...

Not relying on you huys as such, just out to narrow down the search a little, to save time. Anything that is to be donw has to be done soon, not much time left.

I'm no doctor, but I'll search for you man. I know the devastation cancer can bring on a family.

But remeber the net can do only so much. Stay strong, for both your sis and yourself. Judgeing from the site you linked she seems like a great gal.

--edit--
I haven't gone to far into this site but he seems to have a lot of other sites and information already organized. Link

--edit 2--
Do you have, or are you willing, to share what type of tumor, location on the brain stem, her age, and time since prognosis? PM me with the info if you like.

Sloan-Kettering in NYC is renowned for its treatment of cancer as well as for researching cancer. The full name is the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and the URL is here.

Just a reminder: when you search, remember not to use the British spelling for tumour but rather to use tumor if you use the word in your search term.

Godspeed to you and to your sister.

Also, the Medicine Online site has a page entitled "Cancer Links" and lists a pretty extensive list which is here. There are also forums here. You may also want to take a look at My Cancer Compass which is run by the Cancer Treatment Centers of America which you can find here.

I do have some experience in searching on this topic but a different type than your sister's. If I can be of assistance, just PM me.

sorry...my g/f knows of no sites on this type of info. but she did ask some things such as:

-whether or not it's carcinogenic
-if it isn't carcinogenic, he needs to find out if it is surrounded by a membrane
-also depends on where in the brainstem it is

Carcogenic etc = dont think so at all
Brainstem = surrounds it, not on it. eventually will spread to spinal cord etc.
