screw-down coax ends

I agree. What happened to the ones with the separate ring? Haven't seen them in years.

You mean the slip-on ones? They still throw them in for free with VCR's and stuff.

I think he's talking about the old coax network cable ends.

That said, do you need me to call a "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMBULANCE" for you EyeMWing?

😛

Screw on ends are the most robust connectors available for exterior use. The translation to household A/V use was just for consistency.

Yes - for exterior they're nice. But indoors. OMGOMGOMG LAMEEE ESPECIALLY on the back of TV's where they're always shrouded very closely by plastic and you can't get your fingers at them.

Ah hah I misunderstood your post. Yes slip ons are great for the TV and VCR, etc. I think the manufacturers are out to get us so they give us a minimum amount of space to screw on the F fitting.

the worst one is the one on the back of the AIW9800

fsking pos... takes me 10 minutes to get the threads to catch sometimes, I can't wait to get rid of it

I use a slip-on coax cable for mine, no problems at all 😛

Radioshack sells an adapter that you screw the end on to and it turns it in to a slip on- so at least you could do the annoying screwing part out away from your TV.
They also sell just the slip on ones (I beleive) if you wanted to cut off the end.

I make all my own cables anyway, so heh.

If the end is a screw end, you can cut back the sheathing to expose more copper therefore you don't need to screw it in tight.

Or, replace it with a friction fit end as suggested above if it is a crimp-on.

I've always wondered why so many connections on TVs and VCRs have their connections inset or shrouded. Just to make it more difficult for us?
