you could try alt-print scrn . that should capture the current open window

how do you know print scrn alone doesn't work?
 
I just tried it on mine and it worked like it always did. Print screen for the whole desktop and Alt prnt scrn for the active window...
 
print scrn indeed DOES work for capturing your whole screen in XP or any of the other windows out there (95, 98, ME, nt, 2000)
