Press the Power and Home buttons at the same time.

Hold for a second, until a shutter sound is heard or you see a visual indicating a picture was taken.

on my s4 you would just take the side of your hand and place it on the left side of the screen and swipe the side of hand across to the other side.

make a hammer fist and swipe across the screen and it'll take a screen shot.
