Screensaver, Power saving options in Vista not working

I just finished a new build using 64 bit Vista Ultimate. The only problem that I encountered was my screensaver wouldn't work. I noticed the computer wouldn't go into sleep mode, either. I Googled, and fiddled, and met with no success. I played with the advanced power options with no luck. I cursed Vista. I cursed my choice of hardware. I finally started unplugging things. Google info. seemed to lean to usb mouse/keyboard as a common cause, but I was using neither. Blamed my card reader, but that wasn't the cause. Blamed all my installed programs, but disabling them didn't help. Finally, I unplugged my ps/2 mouse. Screensaver kicks in, later computer goes nite, nite!! Switched to a new usb mouse, and everything functions as it should.
Hoepfully, this post will help others having same problem as me.
